Java Briefing : -

Java, formerly known as oak, is an object-oriented programming language developed by Sun. It has many similarities with C, C++, and Objective C; but it is not based on any of those languages.

Java began life as a programming language for software for electronic devices such as toaster, microwave ovens, and personal digital assistants.

Major Features of Java :-

  • A complete Object-oriented programming language.
  • Java programs are portable, i.e., it can be used in an operating system other than the one in which it was created without requiring major (or no) rework.
  • Java Code is robust.
  • Multithreading Language.
  • Java is easier to learn than C++.
  • Java Programs cannot access arbitrary addresses in memory.
  • Java is generally regarded as the most tactical language in which to develop applications for the Web.
  • Built-in security.

Java as described by Sun : A simple, object-oriented, distributed, interpreted, robust, secure, architecture-neutral, portable, high performance, multithreaded and dynamic language.
